Automation in residue handling
Siemens offers automation, instrumentation, analytic, weighing and drive technology products and solutions for reliably monitoring and controlling all the logistics processes in a biogas plant.
Fermentation residues remaining after the fermentation of biomass in a biogas plant are either liquid or solid residues. Because of its high concentration of nutrients, it is mostly used as agricultural fertilizer. In Germany, the fertilizer regulations stipulate that fermentation residues can only be applied to agricultural land during specific periods. This means that adequate storage capacity has to be available. Storage tanks and the connecting pipes must be secure and gas-tight in order to prevent emissions and environmental damage. Fermentation residues can also be treated to produce compost and liquid fertilizer separately.
