Automation of raw materials processing in a bioethanol plant

Raw materials containing starch, such as grain, are ground during the raw materials processing, and the starch is converted into sugar by means of saccharification. Raw materials containing sugar, such as molasses, do not require pretreatment, and can be fermented directly. With bioethanol plants of the second generation, materials containing cellulose, such as straw, are split by enzymes. Independent of the procedure, the outcome of the raw materials treatment is a mash containing sugar. At this point in a refinery, sugar could also be produced instead of bioethanol.
