Distributed Safety Software

Integrated engineering for safety-oriented and standard programs

Safety-oriented and standard programs not only run on one and the same CPU, they can also be created using the same engineering tools. The safety-oriented program part is created using the standard LAD and FBD STEP 7 languages and the S7 Distributed Safety option package.

Information on S7 Distributed Safety versions
For programming safety related applications with controllers of the new generation S7-1200F, S7-1500F, ET 200SP F-CPU and S7-1500 Software Controller F you need the Engineering Software STEP 7 Safety (TIA Portal). With his software you can also program the failsafe systems S7-300F, S7-400F and SIMATIC WinAC RTX F.

Siemens offers a Combo license for both platforms S7 Distributed Safety as well as STEP 7 Safety (TIA Portal) as an upgrade for the latest version of S7 Distributed Safety. This license allows Engineering in both programming environments. For more information see the chapter Licensing at the bottom of this page.

To simplify programming, the latter contains a command library with TÜV-approved software blocks (e.g. EMERGENCY-OFF, two-hand control, muting, gate monitoring).

Users can also create their own blocks. This  considerably simplifies reproducibility and/or extension of existing projects.During generation of the safety-oriented program, the S7 Distributed Safety package performs automatic safety checks and links in additional safety blocks for error recognition and handling.

These control blocks ensure that software errors and hardware faults are recognized and that corresponding reactions occur, which keep the safety system in a safe state or switch it to a safe state. In addition the S7 Distributed Safety package supports a comparison of safety programs and acceptance test of the plant using the generated program printout.

  • S7 Distributed Safety is delivered with a Floating License which allows you to install the software on as many computers as you like. The number of licenses determines the number of computers the software can be used on at one time.

  • There is an upgrade to version 5.4 for the users of the previous versions V5.x

  • Owners of a license for the latest version V5.4 SP5 can purchase an upgrade to a Combo License
    Distributed Safety V5.4 SP5 / Safety Advanced V14 SP1
