Distributed engineering

Distributed working during the engineering phase can shorten the design significantly. SIMATIC PCS 7 offers various options for this: With what is known as "concurrent engineering", several project engineers can work at the same time on one project without having to previously divide this project into sub-projects. SIMATIC Manager also permits what is referred to as Multi-project Engineering. A large project is divided according to technological viewpoints into several sub-projects, in order to work in parallel with several teams. Individual projects can be added to or removed from a multi-project at any time.

Access control & change management

In combination with the detailed drawings in the change log, the user administration and access control integrated into the engineering system with SIMATIC Logon, offers the plant operator excellent systems support in the verification of any changes. The access control for the engineering environment ensures that only authorized users can make changes to the configuration. This is decisive for meeting special industry specific requirements, such as FDA 21 CFR Part 11 or GAMP.

The simulation software SIMATIC S7-PLCSIM simulates a controller for the functional testing of user blocks and programs for S7-400 controller on a PC. This means that the complete program test can be conducted on site in the planning office and the program error detection and elimination is moved to an earlier development stage. This speeds up the initial commissioning, reduces costs and increases program quality.
