GIS Viewer enables the visualization of SIMATIC WinCC Open Architecture objects in distributed systems on a map. This feature provides numerous advantages, particularly in geographical distributed systems, like in Water, Traffic, Oil & Gas or Energy.
The GIS Viewer allows widely distributed plants to be easily visualized geographically on a map. Individual geographic areas can be precisely monitored through automatic or manual zoom right down to the device level. Should system components be in warning or alarm status this is signified by colors, forms, symbols, or characters on the respective map, allowing fast and precise navigation to the interruption. The solution gain more informative value through combination of cartographic information with actual status signals of the plant. A much more efficient project design is also achieved through dynamic map material rather than static map frames.
With the used data and maps the SIMATIC WinCC Open Architecture objects become reality in the layers – any numbers of layer definable. Data and maps are available at many different vendors (e.g.: ESRI - Environmental Systems Research Institute). GIS Viewer provides automatic zoom to upcoming alarms and warnings or easy navigation to any user interface, alarm and event screen. It is directly linked to related alarms and therefore GIS Viewer is perfectly integrated into the SCADA application.
To ensure the secure operation of a plant or machine it is also necessary to take suitable preventive action (e.g. cell protection concept) and to integrate the automation and drive components into a state-of-the-art holistic industrial security concept for the entire plant or machine.
