Success at SPS IPC Drives 2015

The SPS IPC Drives 2015 trade fair finished in late November. For the past 26 years, this trade fair has been and will certainly continue to be one of the key technology and product trade fairs for Siemens Industrial Business. Having attracted 64,386 visitors and 1,666 exhibitors, SPS IPC Drives not only reached record new heights, it also consolidated its position as Europe's leading exhibition of the electrical automation industry.

This year, visitors attending SPS IPC Drives once again had the opportunity to obtain information about the added value of SIMATIC SCADA systems WinCC RT Professional V13, WinCC V7.3 and WinCC Open Architecture V3.14 in an exclusive joint SCADA Lounge. Innovative SCADA solutions from a range of different industries were presented jointly with certified partners in an area spanning over 350m².

SIMATIC SCADA lounge auf der SPS 2015

The WinCC OA Partner jm systems GmbH showcased the project it has implemented, namely the control system for the world's largest rail tunnel, the Gotthard Base Tunnel in Switzerland. Siemens Building Technology displayed its solution for a standardized road tunnel management system that is being used in all road tunnels and Tunnel Control Centers in the federal state of Hesse. The Bosnian WinCC OA Partner BS Telecom Solutions d.o.o. demonstrated its solution for the Traffic Management System used by a chain of tunnels in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

WinCC Center of Competence Mannheim presented the latest solution for quality inspection based on WinCC RT Professional V13 using image processing in the automobile industry with PM-Quality.
In addition, three certified WinCC specialists presented SCADA solutions from a number of different industries. BN Automation AG displayed a factory control system with energy management and load management, line monitoring, BDE- and MES applications. ORBITA Ingenieria offered insight into its SCADA solution for the industrial process control in the food and beverage industry. AllTec Automatisierungs- und Kommuniktionstechnik GmbH showcased the revamp of the control system at Rollsdorf sewage treatment plant including long-term archiving, energy optimization and ATV reporting.

Innovation Zone – SCADA goes mobile

The SCADA Innovation zone featured a host of SCADA-related mobile innovations and allowed visitors to experience first hand the benefits of the latest flexible operating concepts for mobile devices such as tablets or smart phones. Alongside the WinCC OA OPERATOR app, another interesting feature on show here was the new native user interface for iOS and Android. This client offers full UI functionality on mobile devices with no restrictions and automatic adjustment to the respective size of the device.
WinCC V7 presented its WebUX – a mobile solution for platform-independent and browser-independent access to plant information as well as the SIMATIC Information Server 2014, an open, web-based reporting system for interactive reports. Using multi-touch panels, visitors had the chance to gain a first-hand impression of the possibilities of intuitive operating concepts with multitouch gestures.

The wide-ranging scope offered by the SCADA systems SIMATIC WinCC V7.3 and WinCC Open Architecture V3.14 was also presented at the Siemens booth. The new Version 3.14 is due to be released to all SCADA users over the course of the next few days.

The SCADA Lounge proved to be a resounding success once again this year, attracting large numbers of visitors who had the opportunity to enjoy in-depth discussions with high-level technical experts on wide-ranging solution concepts in a relaxed atmosphere.
