Oslo is one of the most environmentally friendly metropolises in Europe. The CO2 emissions of approx. 2.2 tons per capita and year are significantly lower than the European average of 8.5 tons. Not surprising, Norway's public transportation has especially high demands with respect to environmental friendliness.
According to a European study, an increase of 40 % is expected in public transportation in metropolises similar to Oslo within the next 15 years. In view of these figures, low-emission and efficient transportation possibilities are unavoidable in public transportation. Thus, the aspect of environmental friendliness was decisive for equipping the Metro Oslo with new vehicles.
