Conversion to an up-to-date operator control level is an obvious first step of a comprehensive modernization of OpenPMC systems: SIMATIC PCS 7/OPMC can be used as a modern operator control and monitoring system in combination with existing field devices, input/output devices, controllers, and associated engineering data. When Siemens OpenPMC systems are migrated using SIMATIC PCS 7, existing OpenPMC operator control stations (SIMATIC IT Historian Server und Clients) are replaced with SIMATIC PCS 7 operator systems (single stations or client-server systems). The OS single stations and OS servers of these PCS 7/OPMC operator systems can be operated redundantly as well as individually. The OPC server of SIMATIC IT Historian is used for data exchange between OpenPMC controllers and PCS 7/OPMC server.

The Data Base Automation (DBA) software is used for engineering of the PCS 7/OPMC operator systems. The data source for DBA is the SIMATIC IT Historian Management Console, which will continue to be used for configuring the OpenPMC controllers.

For system expansions, it is possible to use the SIMATIC PCS 7 AS 41x controller and SIMATIC process I/O in parallel with existing installations. This requires the use of the SIMATIC PCS 7/OPMC operator control and monitoring system.
