Process Device Manager (PDM)

SIMATIC PDM is a universal, manufacturer-independent tool for configuration, parameter assignment, commissioning, diagnostics and maintenance of intelligent field devices and components.
SIMATIC PDM can be used as a service and diagnostics tool in the stand-alone version as well as integrated into engineering stations of SIMATIC PCS 7 and SIMATIC PCS 7 Maintenance Station.

SIMATIC PDM supports all devices described by Electronic Device Description Language (EDDL). EDDL is standardized to EN 50391 and IEC 61804. It is the most widely used standardized technology for device integration worldwide. The EDD includes a functional and design description of the device. Using this description, SIMATIC PDM automatically creates its user interface with the specific device information.
SIMATIC PDM supports field devices according to the PROFIBUS PA profile descriptions of the PROFIBUS User Organization (PNO), as well as field devices described by an Electronic Device Description (EDD), HART Device Description (HART-DD) or FF Device Description (FF-DD).
With regard to device integration, SIMATIC PDM is the most powerful manager for process devices on the market worldwide. Currently, over 2,500 different field devices from more than 200 manufacturers worldwide can be configured with SIMATIC PDM; more field devices are constantly being added.
There are different options for the integration of field devices into the SIMATIC PDM device library:

  • Full integration via a device-specific EDD that is provided by the manufacturer with the help of an accredited solution partner in the SIMATIC PDM device description library

  • Full integration via a device-specific EDD provided by the manufacturer or on the Internet

  • Integration via PROFIBUS PA - profiles V3.x

  • Integration of HART field devices via the HCF catalog of the HART Communication Foundation

  • Integration of FF field devices via the FF catalog of the Fieldbus FOUNDATION

The field device descriptions (EDD) are located either on the supplied SIMATIC PDM DVD or can be ordered from the field device manufacturer on a storage medium or on the Internet. New field device descriptions or corrections can be easily integrated into the SIMATIC PDM device description library at any time using the Device Integration Manager (DIM).
A high integration quality is achieved with a certified conformity check. Contact us if you need a field device that is not listed in the SIMATIC PDM catalog or if you need support during implementation of a device description. We will be glad to assist you.
