Example of a flat system architecture

For a single station system (OS single stations), all operator control and monitoring functions for a project (plant/unit) are combined on one station. A server-free, so-called “flat” system configuration with OS single stations is possible for small to medium projects. In this configuration, two stations form a redundant OS single station pair which can be expanded with up to six OS single stations as reference stations. The powerful archiving and reporting system SIMATIC PCS 7 Process Historian is used for long-term archiving in this configuration.

As an option, the common plant and terminal bus can also be operated redundantly with Parallel Redundancy Protocol.
