SIMATIC PDM (Process Device Manager)

SIMATIC PDM (Process Device Manager) is an universal, manufacturer-independent tool for configuration, parameter assignment, commissioning, diagnostics and maintenance of intelligent process devices (actors, sensors) and automation components (remote I/Os, multiplexer, process control units, compact controller). A high number of field devices of different manufacturers can be controlled and monitored under an uniform user interface.

SIMATIC PDM can be used in a variety of different scaling levels:

  • As a service and diagnostics tool in the stand-alone version

  • Integrated into engineering stations of the SIMATIC PCS 7 process control system

  • Integrated into the Step 7 engineering tool of SIMATIC S 7

Device parameters and functions for all supported devices are displayed uniformly and independent of their communication connection. With respect to device integration, SIMATIC PDM is the most high-performance open process device manager on the global market. Devices previously not supported can be easily integrated into SIMATIC PDM at any time by importing their device descriptions (EDD) or device description packages (FDI). PROFINET enters the field level

PROFINET is an open and manufacturer-independent Industrial Ethernet standard and represents maximum transparency, open IT communication, network security and simultaneous real-time communication.
