Siemens Drive Technologies’ electronics manufacturing plant in Frauenauracher Straße, Erlangen (GWE) is the overall winner in the “Factory of the Year” contest. The Factory of the Year / Global Excellence in Operations (GEO), sponsored by the trade publication Production and the consulting company A.T. Kearney, is one of the most competitive contests for Germany’s manufacturing industry. The winners are honored for their outstanding performance across the entire value added chain.
“This award is clearly a team award, and it was won by all the employees of the electronics manufacturing plant. We are excited about this success and, of course, we want to continue to focus all our efforts on further positive developments within our Erlangen plant in the future,” said Robert Neuhauser, CEO of Siemens’ Motion Control Systems Business Unit, of which the plant in Frauenauracher Straße in Erlangen is part.
“In addition to the plant’s model low-waste workplace design, the value stream has been optimized overall,” said Bernd Schmidt, Vice President at A.T. Kearney and responsible for the Factory of the Year / GEO awards. One of the key success factors at GWE is the trust that is placed in employees’ ability to take responsibility for their own actions and to execute. They are given ample freedom to come up with new ideas. This has resulted in a well-conceived assembly system, efficient logistics, and cost improvement measures, among other things. Through the enthusiasm of employees and their great willingness to embrace change, the factory – which was already very good – was able to achieve a further leap in performance. And this has now been recognized with the top overall award in this competition.
