SIRIUS 3RK3 Modular Safety System

Central modules

The central module is the basic component in each SIRIUS 3RK3 Modular Safety System. It reads in inputs, controls outputs and can communicate with higher-level controllers via a bus module. The entire safety program of an application is processed in the central module. It can function at the lowest configuration level and can be parameterized using the MSS ES software.

Basic central module:

In situations where more than three safety functions must be evaluated and where parameterizing the wiring of safety relays would be very time-consuming and expensive to implement, the 3RK3 Basic central module is used. It reads in inputs, controls outputs and communicates with higher-level controllers via an interface module.

The entire safety program of an application is processed in the central module. At the smallest configuration level, the 3RK3 Basic central module is functional on its own without any of the expansion modules that can be connected as options.

ASIsafe basic central module:

The 3RK3 ASIsafe basic central module represents the successor of the basic safety monitor. Typical applications: Detection of safety-related sensors via ASIsafe and safety-related disconnection of actuators via the integrated safe outputs or via distributed safe AS-i outputs.

ASIsafe extended central module

The 3RK3 ASIsafe extended central module represents the successor of the extended safety monitor. Typical applications: Detection of safety-related sensors via ASIsafe and safety-related disconnection of actuators via the integrated safe outputs or via distributed safe AS-i outputs.

Advanced central module:

The 3RK3 Advanced central module is the logical expansion of the Basic central module – to include the AS-i safety monitor. It enables a standard AS-i network to be upgraded for safety-related tasks. Typical applications: Slave-to-slave communication in modular machine concepts or safety-related communication with plant components. In addition to the features of the Basic version, the 3RK3 Advanced central module offers numerous additional features.

Expansion modules

With expansion modules, the scope of functions of the MSS can be flexibly adapted to the requirements of the application. Expansion modules are offered as safety-related and standard input and output modules as well as mixed modules. Any combination of module types is possible. Parameters are assigned via the central modules with the MSS ES software.

    - 8 safety-related relay outputs

  • 4 F-DO:
    - 4 safety-related solid-state outputs

  • 8 DO:
    - 8 solid-state standard outputs

  • 8 DI:
    - 8 standard inputs


Interface modules

The DP interface module is used to transfer diagnostics data and device status data to a higher-level PROFIBUS network. Depending on the central unit, it is thus possible to exchange up to 64 bits of data with the controller in cyclic mode. The diagnostics data can be called up in acyclic mode.

Diagnostics display

The diagnostics display is used to display diagnostics data and device status data so that when an error occurs or a safety sensor is tripped, the cause for the plant outage can be identified as fast as possible.
